South Dakota State Fairground

• In operation throughout the year, the South Dakota State Fairground is a sprawling facility with 1,200 campsites that all come with water, sewer and electricity. Guests can also opt to stay on tent sites. On the property are restrooms, showers, dump stations, and storm shelters. The numerous events at the campgrounds are another big attraction. In addition to the state fair, the Wheel Jam, South Dakota Outdoor Expo and livestock events are all held at the fairground. The campsites surround a fairground that includes attractions such as a horticulture park, camel rides, a beer garden, musical stages, museums with exhibits, an amusement park and the Dakota State Fairground car racing track.

Memorial Park

• Memorial Park in Huron is situated along the James River and contains 61 acres. The park has 24 RV camping full-hookup sites that come with 30- and 50-amp electric connections as well as an additional nine sites for tents. On the grounds are a pavilion, grills, playground, picnic tables. dump station, restrooms, showers and phones. Fishing is available at both a lake and river. Other on-site recreational activities include a walking trail and basketball courts. The sites can be rented on a nightly and weekly basis. Another plus is the nine-hole Memorial Park Golf Course is located just down the street. Firewood is for sale at the park.

Shady Rest Park

• The Shady Rest Park is a no-frills campground with eight full hookups and a restroom. It's often occupied by long-term mobile homes, but RV campers can stay at Shady Rest Park as well. The Shady Rest Park is located 15 minutes to the northeast of downtown Huron. One plus is it's also located along the shores of Lake Byron, which offers excellent fishing as well as boating, swimming, hiking and water skiing opportunities. The site can also accommodate campers with tents. Hiking and picnicking are other popular activities at Lake Byron.
