Campgrounds in Mexia, Texas

Situated in central Texas in Limestone County, Mexia is a small town that offers visitors many area attractions and outdoor activities. It has a drive-through safari, a historic Confederate site and several surrounding lakes that make it ideal for weekend camping trips. There are many local campsites that offer a wide variety of activities and amenities.
  1. Fort Parker State Park

    • This state park is located seven miles south of Mexia on Highway 14 and offers 25 campsites, including some with water and electricity. Screen shelters are also available, and there is a group camp with nine buildings, a learning center, dining hall and group recreation center with heating and air conditioning. It also has a boat ramp, boat dock, and a multi-use trail for hiking and mountain bike riding. There is a lake fishing pier, fish-cleaning facilities, a playground and a baseball/softball field. Visitors may rent canoes at this location as well. Nearby attractions include Old Fort Parker and the Confederate Reunion Grounds State Historic Site.

    Lake Mexia Marina

    • These campgrounds are situated around a 1,400-acre shallow lake that offers many fishing opportunities. It is located just seven miles from Mexia off U.S. Highway 84 on the Navasota River. Visitors can utilize 11 campsites that feature water and electricity, a concessions stand and restrooms with showers. There is a trailer dump station, picnic area, boat ramp and boat trailer parking as well. The most common types of fish near the campsite are largemouth bass, white bass, crappie and catfish.

    Fairfield Lake State Park

    • Located just a few minutes from Interstate Highway 45 northeast of Fairfield near Mexia, Fairfield Lake State Park offers many outdoor activities, such as camping, backpacking, horseback riding, hiking, bird watching, swimming, fishing, jet skiing and boating. There are 15 miles of trails surrounding the 2,400-acre lake, playgrounds and a state park store. The campsites feature water and electricity. Some campsites are lakeside, while primitive sites are at the end of a six-mile hiking trail. The campgrounds offer picnic areas, a group dining hall, an amphitheater and a trailer dump station. Other amenities at this site include restrooms with and without showers, a lighted fishing pier, a fish-cleaning station and boat ramps.
