William Mitchell State Park is a 334-acre park located in Wexford County between Lake Mitchell and Lake Cadillac. The modern campground within the state park has 221 campsites. Site amenities include 50-amp hookups, electrical service, modern restrooms and a mini-cabin for rent. Park amenities include a boat ramp, visitor center, beach house, picnic shelter and playground. A historic, man-made canal runs through the park and connects the two lakes. Fishing is popular along the canal as well as on the lakes. Other popular activities are swimming, boating, wildlife viewing and cross-country skiing or hiking on the Mitchell-Heritage Nature Trail. The groomed trail is 2.5 miles long.

Northern Exposure Camping, RV and Recreation Park is located in Mesick in western Wexford County. It is situated on 300 acres of wooded land and includes 2.5 miles of shoreline on Hodenpyle Pond. The "pond" is a large, man-made body of water designated for recreational uses like boating, fishing, swimming and beach-going. Northern Exposure has 260 large sites, and 100 of those sites are waterfront. Forty campsites are primitive and occupied on a first-come, first-serve basis. The other 220 sites have water and electrical hookups, and reservations are recommended. The park welcomes both RV and tent campers. Large and small cabins are available to rent. Other park amenities include 50-amp service, dump stations, showers, firewood, ice and bait to purchase. The site also offers 3.5 miles of hiking trails. A section of the North Country Trail also runs through the park.

Baxter Bridge State Forest Campground is located in northeastern Wexford County. The nearest city is Manton. The campground is small and rustic. There are 25 campsites for tents or small camper trailers. Three sites can host a 40-foot trailer. There are no hookups for electricity or water. Amenities include vault toilets and potable water from a hand pump. All sites are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The campground is located along the Manistee River, and it is a popular spot for canoers and trout fishermen. Other activities in the state forest include hiking, wildlife viewing and off-road vehicle riding on designated trails.
