The Ortonville Recreation Area is a 5,400-acre park with wooded hills and a variety of recreational activities. Overnight visitors can tent-camp at the 25-site equestrian campground located at the 8.5 mile trail head off Fox Lake Road. The campground is rustic, with vault toilets and a hand pump for water. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and fire circle. Visitors should call the park ahead of time for availability. Visitors may also stay in the Pines Rustic Cabin, located in the Bloomer #3 area of the park, at the top of a wooded hill. The 20-bunk cabin has propane heat, an outdoor vault toilet, picnic tables and a grill for cooking. The Pines Rustic Cabin is near hiking, mountain biking and cross-country skiing trails, a horseshoe pit and volleyball court. Reservations for the cabin are available by phone or online.
Open April 15th through October 15th of each year, this family-owned campground has a 35-acre lake for fishing and swimming, a recreation building, planned events like concerts and socials, a horseshoe pit, volleyball, a petting zoo and playground. With its 15 primitive tent sites, 2 cabins and 100 full hookup sites (30- and 50-amp service), Clearwater can accommodate campers of all types. Daily, weekly and monthly rates are available and vary by location within the park.
The Metamora-Hadley Recreation Area is 12 northeast of Ortonville. Visitors to this 732-acre park can swim, fish or boat in the 80-acre Lake Minnewanna where paddle boats, canoes and row boats are available for rental. Two-thirds of the park is reserved for hunting and there are 6 miles of hiking trails and 6 miles of ungroomed cross country skiing trails. Metamora-Hadley offers 214 modern campsites equipped with electricity, picnic tables and fire pits. A communal restroom facility is available with flush toilets and hot showers. For guest convenience, a concession store is open during the day near the entrance to the park. Reservations may be made in advance by calling the park.
Just 15 minutes southwest of Ortonville, campers will find Groveland Oaks Campground within the Holly State Recreation Area. The campground's recreation program includes crafts, games, music, theme weekends, day trips, and live entertainment. The camp lake has a swimming beach, or visitors can chose from fishing, boating or paddle boating instead. Camping options at Groveland Oaks include 269 modern sites. In addition to tent-camping sites, they offer six four-person cabins and four six-person cabins, all of which include a refrigerator, electricity, an outdoor fire pit, grill for cooking, modern restroom and hot shower. RV sites average 50-by-50 feet and include electrical and water hookups.
