Day Camps in Lafayette, Indiana

Lafayette is located in Tippecanoe County, Indiana. The city is home to Purdue University and is on the banks of the Wabash River. Lafayette and the surrounding area is home to various summer day camps that allow kids to take part in a variety of events or focus on one particular sport or activity.
  1. Camp Tecumseh

    • Camp Tecumseh is located in Brookston, which is 14 miles north of Lafayette. Camp Tecumseh is one of the largest summer camps in the country and hosts campers from different states and countries. The camp is run by the YMCA and is heavily influenced by Christian values. The staff of Camp Tecumseh is dedicated to providing campers with an experience that will keep them coming back. Camp Tecumseh is for campers that are between the ages of 8 and 15. The camp features large water slides, rock climbing walls, horseback riding, zip lines, swimming pools and a number of other activities.

    Havendell Farm

    • Havendell Farm is located 40 miles south of Lafayette, in Pittsboro. Occupying 20 acres, Havendell Farm consists of indoor and outdoor equestrian facilities. Havendell Farm offers weekly day camps during the summer months that are aimed at children who are either beginning riders or at an intermediate level of riding. Campers will learn the basics of horseback riding, while also acquiring knowledge about the care of horses and the safety that is involved with riding. Campers will be paired with an instructor by age and skill level, and the instructor will lead the group in riding, games, crafts and demonstrations throughout the day.

    Straight Arrow Day Camp

    • Straight Arrow Day Camp is run by the Lafayette YMCA and is located 15 miles southeast of the city. The camp occupies 40 acres on the banks of Wildcat Creek. Campers are between the ages of 4 and 15, and the instructors are more often than not former campers themselves. Campers can take part in activities that include horseback riding, fishing, canoing, archery, rock climbing, swimming, hiking, site-seeing and obstacle courses. All of the staff at this camp is certified in both CPR and first aid, and certain nights are family nights, when campers' families are invited to see what the camp is all about.

    Purdue Sport Camps

    • Purdue University is located in West Lafayette and is home to summer day camps that provide campers with instruction in specific sports. Camps for men's and women's basketball, diving, tennis, volleyball, softball, swimming and wrestling are available. Most of the camps are held in weekly sessions, and campers who live nearby can return home each night. Housing is provided for campers from far away. Campers will get to take advantage of all of Purdue's state-of-the-art athletic facilities, and the instructors are highly regarded for their ability to improve their campers' skills and confidence.
