    • In a rural area half an hour from Des Moines, you will find the independently owned and operated Des Moines West KOA. The campground can accommodate RV campers in spacious, full hookup, pull-through sites that have a gravel path, lawn area, picnic table and fire pit. Restroom and shower facilities are on the premises, as is a convenience store. The campground laundry is open 24 hours and Wi-Fi Internet access is available. Fishing enthusiasts can try their luck in the fishing pond and swimming can be done in the campground pool. There is a basketball court and kids can enjoy the playground area.     Walnut Woods State Park Campgrounds

    • Walnut Woods State Park is on West Des Moines' southern edge, about 25 minutes from Des Moines. According to the state park's website, the campground is family friendly and provides 22 campsites for RV campers, some of which have full hookups and others only electricity hookups. Campsites are situated among trees and can be reached via concrete paths. A fireplace and picnic tables are provided, as is an RV dump station and restrooms. The Raccoon River runs along the campground, providing boating and fishing opportunities and a large number of species for bird watching. The campground is open year round and campers can engage in cross-country skiing during winter and equestrian trails for horseback riding in warmer weather. Nearby attractions include Adventure Land theme park, Glen Oaks Country Club Golf Course and Blank Park Zoo. Reservations are required for some of the campsites.
