Campgrounds on Route 9 Near New Jersey Beaches

Route 9 follows the New Jersey shoreline the entire length of the state. Campgrounds located along this highway are never far from beaches and the Atlantic Ocean. While some campgrounds are only open from spring to autumn, others operate year round. In addition to enjoying the wooded terrain and creeks that meander through the countryside, many campgrounds are within a short drive of historical sites or big-city entertainment.
  1. Atlantic City North Family Campground

    • Guests at the Atlantic City North Family Campground are within a 15-minute drive of Long Beach Island beaches and a half-hour drive from the famous boardwalk and casinos in Atlantic City. The campground offers tent sites, RV sites with full hookups as well as cabins that feature air conditioning and heating. Visitors can enjoy a pool and water playground, shuffleboard, horseshoes, miniature golf, or volleyball. There are restrooms and free showers, a convenience store and snack bar, laundry facilities, and a lounge on site. Firewood and propane are available, as is Wi-Fi. The campground is open from the first of April until the first of November. Rates for 2010 range from $45 per night for a tent site with no utilities to $165 per night for an air conditioned lodge.

    Avalon Campground

    • Avalon Campground is located in the southern part of the state on the Jersey Cape and is only minutes from the beach. Campers can select from tent sites, furnished cabins or trailers, or RV sites with all hookups available. Free cable and Wi-Fi is available at most sites. The campground boasts two pools, a playground, showers, laundry, and convenience store. Picnic tables, showers, restrooms, and a lounge are also on site. Church services are offered, and guests can purchase propane or firewood if needed. Guests can enjoy boating, kayaking, or dolphin and whale watching nearby. The campground is open from April 9 until October 17 and offers discounted rates for selected, off-peak times. Seasonal rates for 2010 range from $37 per day for a tent site without utilities to $95 daily for a two-bedroom cabin, with weekly rates available.

    Cedar Creek Campground

    • Cedar Creek Campground is located within 10 miles of both Barnegat Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Guests can choose from rustic tent sites, RV sites with full hookup, furnished travel trailers, or spacious cabins that can sleep as many as 12 people. The campground rents canoes and kayaks to guests and also sells them, as well as RV and camping supplies. Restrooms, free showers, playground, pool, and game room are located on site. The campground also has a guest laundry and a convenience store with a delicatessen. Daily rates for 2010 range from $39.50 for a basic tent site to $265 for a deluxe cabin for four guests. Weekly and monthly rates are available on certain selections, and the campground offers discounted rates from November 1, until April 1, with even greater discounts for stays of 30 days or longer.
