Less than 35 miles to the northwest of Macon, Indian Springs State Park has a reputation as the oldest state park in the nation. The Creek Indians used the springs for centuries to heal the sick. (See Resources section.) During the 1800s, the area was known as a resort town. The state acquired it in 1825, and it became an official "State Forest Park" in 1927. You can try the spring waters for yourself while camping at the park, either using its cottages, pitching a pent or pulling up an RV. The 11 two-bedroom cottages and 88 campsites can accommodate a motor home or two tents. Each site has water, electrical service, picnic table, grill and fire ring.
