Why is Florida called the orange state?

Florida is often referred to as the "Sunshine State" due to its year-round warm climate, rather than the "Orange State". The use of the nickname "Sunshine State" can be traced back to 1888 when it appeared on a local hotel brochure. Florida's pleasant weather and abundance of sunshine attracted tourists and encouraged the growth of the state's tourism industry. The nickname was further cemented when the Florida State Legislature officially adopted "The Sunshine State" as Florida's official nickname in 1970.
