When did the pioneers settle in Oregon?

The first permanent white settlers in the Oregon Country arrived in 1834. Among them was Jason Lee, a Methodist missionary who founded the Willamette Valley settlement of Salem. In the following years, more settlers from the United States and Europe began to arrive in Oregon, drawn by the fertile land, mild climate, and abundance of natural resources. By 1840, there were an estimated 5,000 settlers in the Oregon Country.
