How to Live in Hollywood Beach, Florida

Located on Florida's Gold Coast, Hollywood Beach is one of many public beach communities on a long strand of land that stretches for miles along South Florida's Atlantic coastline. Hollywood Beach is a prime vacation spot, but many people call Florida's twelfth largest metropolitan area home year-round, with more relocating every year.

Check online to find a list of apartment complexes in the area. Jot down the contact information of the complexes you're interested in, and give them a call for more information. If possible, schedule a tour of a few of the apartments, to see for yourself.

Contact a list of realtors or contact the Better Business Bureau for the names of some registered and reputable realtors, if you're looking for a house or condo to move into permanently. Many realtors post their property listings online, or will be able to email you photos and information regarding homes you may be interested in.

Drive or take Hollywood's public transit to system to get around town. Alternately, provided you don't need to use the turnpike or Interstate 95 or the 595 to get around, consider using a bicycle: There are several cycle and pedestrian pathways in and around the city to accommodate those not using their cars, plus you can soak up some south Florida sun during the warmer months.

    • 4

Set the thermostat in your house, condo or apartment to a reasonable temperature to deal with the heat. Florida gets quite hot in the summer, but thanks to the ocean humidity remains relatively moderate. By setting your thermostat to a tolerable temperature, you'll save on cooling costs, while acclimating to the heat. Winter temperatures are mild and rarely ever reach the freezing mark.

Avoid or limit time on the beach during the prime tourism months of June to August, if you don't like crowds. Hollywood's population can nearly double in those months from vacationers, but tourism dollars power the local economy, so prepare accordingly. It may help to limit driving in these months to avoid traffic congestion and opt for public transportation to and from work.

Take in the public parks or special events that focus on activities not related to the beach, to get a better feel for the locale and to feel more like a resident. You'll be able to meet people and mingle and get a better feel for your new home.
