Pet-Friendly Cabins for a Weekend in the Poconos

Encompassing more than 100 lakes, 170 miles of meandering rivers and approximately 2,400 square miles of rolling mountainous terrain, the Pocono Mountains in northeastern Pennsylvania are a visually stunning choice for a weekend getaway. Home to numerous pet-friendly state parks and miles of hiking trails, the region is an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise.

  1. Lakeside Cabins

    • Spend the weekend along the glistening shores of one of the Poconos’ picturesque lakes by reserving one of the pet-friendly cottages at Martin's Lakefront Cottages in Hawley. Located on Fairview Lake, the cottages are next to some of the best bass fishing in the area. Most of the cottages have lake views and each has knotty pine decor, a full kitchen, private bathroom, fireplace, television, outdoor patio or porch, grill and picnic table and a motorboat. Keen Lake Camping and Cottage Resort is a pet-friendly camping resort in Waymart. It overlooks Keen Lake, a 90-acre private lake. Each cottage is furnished with everything but towels and linens. On-site amenities include a convenience store with basic groceries, sundries and camping supplies and a special swimming area for pets.

    State Parks

    • Babbling Brook Cottages is in Dingman's Ferry, just 75 yards from George Childs National Park, with its cascading waterfalls and miles of hiking trails. It’s only a short drive from area ski resorts and the historic village of Milford. Pets are welcome with prior approval. Choose from five cabins, each with a full kitchen and cable television as well as an outdoor fire pit. There are a limited number of pet-friendly rustic cabins available at Promised Land State Park. Each cabin has a fireplace, stove and refrigerator, electricity and access to a private bathroom. The park has several lakes, two swimming beaches, five boat launching areas, fishing areas and roughly 50 miles of hiking trails.

    KOA Campgrounds

    • There are two KOA campgrounds in the Poconos. One is in the southern part of the region near Delaware Water Gap, which is a hub of hiking, biking and outdoor recreation near the Appalachian Trail. The other is to the north, near the town of Honesdale and attractions such as Old Stone Jail and Pocono Raceway. Both campgrounds offer extensive amenities such as a snack bar, seasonal swimming pool, wireless Internet, bicycle rentals and miniature golf. Additionally, both campgrounds have pet-friendly rental cabins. Most have a private bathroom and a full or partial kitchen.

    Year-Round Options

    • Naomi Village in North Cresco is open year-round. It has a variety of private cottages that sleep two to six people. Pets are welcome, although you'll need to sign a waiver and provide proof of current vaccinations if requested. Amenities include an outdoor pool, playground, fishing pond and a tennis and basketball court. The cottages, suites and cabins at Martinville Streamside Cottages in Canadensis are also open year-round. Each cabin has a private deck with a grill, full kitchen, linens and towels.
