Ebro, Florida, has only one hotel, but there are others within a half-hour drive from the town. This 3.2 square mile town small town has less than 300 people. Ebro is in the southwest corner of Washington County, as close to larger towns in Bay and Walton counties as it is to larger towns in its own county. Just a short drive away, Panama City Beach has a few hotels close to State Road 79, the main artery into Ebro.
Ebro's one hotel, the Ebro Motel, offers a true "motor hotel" experience. Patrons park outside their room's door, and it lacks the amenities expected in hotels. Each room has a television set, microwave and small refrigerator. Local calls are free. The Ebro Motel has 27 rooms as well as RV, boat trailer and semi parking. The motel also has a picnic area.
The hotel is on Captain Fritz Road, although some GPS devices may show it as simply "20." There are not many buildings along this stretch of Captain Fritz Road; trees and creeks dot the roadside. The Ebro Motel is a one-story orange building with a sign on the roadside.
Just down the route 79, less than a half-hour from Ebro, is the Sandpiper Beacon Beach Resort. Located on the Gulf of Mexico, this hotel caters to the spring break crowd, but it also has amenities that make it a family-style resort. When college spring break vacations overlap with spring vacations for families with younger children, the Sandpiper divides the resort into two parts -- one half devoted to young families and the other half given over to college students looking to party.
There are two Seagrove Cottages within striking distance of Ebro. The closest of the two, in Freeport, comes in the form of a waterfront chalet. Seagrove Cottages on Mallet Bayou, a 20-minute ride from Ebro, offers chalets on the water. This is not a beachfront property. The other Seagrove Cottages are across the street from the beach; they are almost 40 minutes away on Santa Rosa Beach. The Santa Rosa Seagrove Cottages are two and three-bedroom spaces that cater to people seeking to get away from the spring break crowd.
The Holiday Inn of Panama City Beach, about a half-hour drive from Ebro, has all gulf-front rooms. This hotel also boasts "Aqualand," a large water playground area that includes water fountains, pools and slides. This hotel, like many on Panama City Beach, has two seasons: spring break and the rest of the year, which this hotel calls "value" season. During spring break, the hotel has nightly entertainment. Throughout the rest of the year, the hotel may cancel entertainment, depending on occupancy. Families can rent kids' suites, which come with a partitioned area with two single beds, an X-box and separate television.
