Beaches for Dogs in Hawaii

Hawaii is a beautiful island chain in the Pacific, full of amazing sights, including mountains, active volcanoes, exotic wildlife and more. There are also plenty of beaches to explore, and if you're one of those pet lovers who must bring their dog with them on vacation, you won't be disappointed. There are beaches you and your canine friend can walk down together.

  1. Waikiki

    • Waikiki is located next to Honolulu on Hawaii's largest island, Oahu. There are several beaches in Waikiki that are dog friendly in various ways. On Gray's Beach, Outrigger Canoe Club Beach and Royal-Moana Beach, dogs are allowed in all areas, as long as they're on leashes. On Duke Kahanamoku (Fort DeRussy) Beach and Sans Souci Beach, dogs are allowed below the high-tide line, meaning that the dogs can be on the ocean side of the beach, behind a line of debris marked with seaweed.

    Koko Head

    • On the southeastern tip of Oahu lies the town of Koko Head. Some of its major attractions are its massive tuff cone and 1,200 foot high crater. But there are also a few dog-friendly beaches to check out as well. You can take your dog for a stroll on its leash along Kaloko Beach or let it roam below the high-tide line on Makapuu Beach Park or Wawamalu Beach.

    North Shore

    • On the northern side of Oahu is another popular destination for both tourists and locals alike. The northern coast of the island, known as North Shore, has lots of beaches, including dog-friendly ones. Kawela Bay Beach, Kapaeloa Beach, Pahipahialua Beach and Turtle Bay Beach all allow dogs on all areas of the beach, as long as they're on a leash. Beaches that allow dogs to stay behind the high tide line are: Chun’s Reef Beach, Laniakea Beach, Papailoa Beach and Waialee Beach Park.

    Kahala

    • In the southeastern tip of Honolulu, Hawaii's biggest city and capital, is the neighborhood of Kahala. Kahala is home to luxurious hotels, restaurants and gorgeous beaches. A couple of their beaches are even pet-friendly, and will allow you to walk your dog on them. The white sand, clear water Kahala beach lets you walk your dog with a leash, while Wailupe Beach Park will let your dog play below the high-tide line.
