The state of Missouri is rich in natural resources including an abundant water supply and several types of minerals.
Missouri is bordered on the east by the Mississippi River and the northern section of its western border meets the Missouri River. The White River is located in southwestern Missouri and is fed by streams in southern Missouri and northwest Arkansas. Other smaller rivers in the state include the St. Francis, Current, Meramec, Gasconade, Grand, Nodoway, Thompson and Chariton Rivers.
Covering approximately 55,000 acres, the largest lake in Missouri is the Lake of the Ozarks. In addition, Mark Twain Lake, the Harry S. Truman Reservoir, Stockton Lake, Clearwater Lake, Lake Wappapello, Lake Taneycomo and Table Rock Lake are some of the larger lakes located in the state.
Missouri also has a number of public wetlands located in conservation areas throughout the state.
Missouri's industrial mineral resources include limestone, sand, gravel, barite, clay, shale and granite.
Metallic mineral resources located in Missouri include lead, zinc and iron.
Coal, oil and natural gas are fuel resources found in northwest Missouri.
