Hot springs have long been sought out by individuals seeking rest, relaxation and rejuvenation. Naturally occurring geological phenomena, hot springs are an enjoyable pastime for geological enthusiasts and tourists alike. With more than 300 hot springs to dip into, California is a hot spot for hot springs. From San Diego County in the southern part of the state to Chico up north, hot springs are scattered throughout the state.

  1. Agua Caliente Springs in San Diego County

    • Nestled outside of Mount Laguna, near Julian in San Diego County, the Agua Caliente Springs are a popular attraction open all year except during the summer months. Situated in the Anza Borrego Desert, Agua Caliente Park is best known for its geothermal heated springs. The park contains two outdoor and one indoor pool and spa filled with mineral water pumped in from the area's hot springs. Agua Caliente Park offers outdoor and RV camping accommodations.

    Mercey Hot Springs in Fresno County

    • Located in the northwest corner of Fresno County, the Mercey Hot Springs can be found about 15 miles west of Interstate Highway 5 on Little Panoche Road. A bath house, pool, RV park and cabins have been situated at the hot springs for nearly 100 years. One of the several cabins on the property has a full kitchen while another has a fireplace. All come with linens, towels, electricity, heat and RV hookups in addition to beds and baths. Guests can soak in the soothing waters of the hot springs, explore the surrounding mountains, take in a game of Frisbee golf or even participate in a yoga seminar.

    Sierra Hot Springs in Northern California

    • Located on the edge of the Tahoe National Forest northeast of Sacramento and near the California/Nevada border, the Sierra Hot Springs are situated in Sierraville. Nestled away on land considered to be a sacred healing place by Native Americans, the Sierra Hot Springs Resort and Retreat Center offers guests the opportunity to relax in one of three public indoor and outdoor pools or private Phoenix Baths filled with natural, hot mineral water drawn from the nearby springs. The onsite spa offers massages and full service spa treatment.
