Scenic Lake Shore Drive in Chicago has been featured in movies, and the expressway along Lake Michigan has a section of its own on the Chicago Tribune website. Visitors to Chicago can stay at one of two hotels located directly on Lake Shore Drive, or at a number of hotels very nearby that also offer spectacular views of the lake.
The W Chicago - Lakeshore Hotel, located on North Lake Shore Drive, is part of the chain that is known for its modern elegance. Guest rooms feature views of Lake Michigan or of the skyline of Chicago. Rated at four diamonds by the American Automobile Association, the W Hotel's standard room amenities include 32-inch flat screen televisions, high-speed Internet access, and at least 315 square feet of space in each room. Larger suites of up to 1,100 square feet are also available for an additional charge. Other hotel offerings include an on-site spa, fitness center, and heated indoor pool, and there are restaurants, bars, and cafes available inside the hotel. Rates in 2010 are about $500 a night for standard hotel rooms.

The Ramada, on South Lake Shore Drive, is farther from the action of downtown Chicago, but includes plenty of attractive amenities. These include free wireless Internet in each room, a full-service restaurant and free parking. There is also a fitness center and outdoor pool. Rates in 2010 were about $110 a night. Located across the street from Lake Michigan, many rooms look out onto the lakefront. The hotel is about 10 minutes from Chicago's Navy Pier.

The hotel is decadently styled, with crystal chandeliers and high ceilings. Hotel amenities include high-speed Internet, newspaper delivery to each room and plush-top mattresses. Some rooms overlook downtown Chicago, while others offer direct views of Lake Michigan. The hotel also provides a business center with faxing, copying and printing capabilities, babysitting services, a fitness room, and a paddle-tennis table. Pets are allowed, for an additional $75 fee. Room prices start at about $270 a night, as of 2010.
