Things to Do in Westchester, New York

Located less than 20 miles north of Manhattan, Westchester County, New York, is a suburban county populated with families and commuters.   1. Westchester Broadway Theatre

    • Open since 1974, the Westchester Broadway Theatre is the longest-running, year-round dinner theatre in the state of New York. The theater serves cocktails and food prior to the beginning of each show, the price of which is included in the tickets.

      Past performers include Wayne Newton, Tom Jones and Harry Belafonte. The theater has seen Broadway shows such as Evita, The Sound of Music and Rent since its inception.

      The theater has free parking and wheelchair accessible seating, and accepts all major credit cards.

    Van Cortlandt Manor

    • Located in Croton-on-Hudson, Van Cortlandt Manor consists of a stone manor house and a brick ferry house, as well as heritage gardens and a country road leading to the Hudson River.

      Costumed guides lead hands-on guided tours of the historic buildings and gardens, usually lasting approximately 45 minutes. On these guided tours, you can try your hand at brick-making, spinning, blacksmithing and other period crafts. Tours leave every 30 minutes.

      The manor house is home to a collection of colonial and federal furnishings.

    The Hammond Museum and Japanese Stroll Garden

    • The Hammond Museum in North Salem has art exhibits between April and November each year. Exhibits include sculptures, paintings, media and calligraphy.

      The museum’s Stroll Garden has numerous paths that incorporate sound, sight, touch and smell into your walk. The garden has various areas, including the Dry Landscape, Tea and Courtyard gardens, and the Hill and Pond. The museum invites you to wander the Stroll Garden at your leisure.

    Playland Amusement Park

    • Open since 1928, Playland is the county's first planned amusement park. It has a more than 50 family rides and attractions, including a pool and beach, lake for kayaking and boating, miniature golf, children's play land and five major roller coasters.

      The park is designated a National Historic Landmark and is open between May and September. In July and August, the park has firework displays on selected nights.
