Kansas City Kids' Activities

Kansas City is a vibrant city with a diverse culture and history and offers a wide range of activities meant just for kids. It is home to Walt Disney's first animation studio and Russell Stover Candies, the world's largest boxed chocolates manufacturer. From its kid-friendly eats and indoor play centers to community gardens and historical landmarks, kids of all ages will find many things to do in Kansas City.

  1. Beanstalk Children's Garden

    • Beanstalk Children's Garden is a part of the Kansas City Community Garden that focuses on education of children. Children of all ages can learn about many different nature concepts such as plants, insects, nutrition and food production. The garden encourages children to use their senses to gain solid learning experiences. It labels all plants and other specimens and includes interesting facts. The paved paths of the garden allow for easy access for strollers and wheelchairs. Beanstalk Children's Garden is located at the Swope Park Community Garden and is open seasonally from June to October.

    Union Station

    • Union Station is a popular landmark in Kansas City that has been completely restored. It offers a variety of attractions and activities for kids of all ages. It houses permanent collections for the Kansas City Museum and features a variety of traveling and lasting exhibits. The KC Rail Experience exhibit enables visitors to learn about the history of the American Railroad and includes artifacts and old rail cars. Science City is an interactive science facility that includes many different exhibits for a wide variety of ages. Other features of Union Station include a planetarium and a theater district that offers live theater performances and large-screen movies. Union Station is open to the public year-round.

    Kaleidoscope

    • Kaleidoscope is a free public art studio that promotes the creativity of children of all ages. It offers family and independent art sessions to enable children and their caregivers to create art using a variety of materials. All sessions are 40 minutes in length. Children attend the family art sessions with adults. The independent sessions focus on children ages five to 12 to explore on their own. Kaleidoscope is open year-round, and it offers special projects throughout the school year to help extend school learning experiences. It accommodates school field trips and also offers a special program where a Kaleidoscope employee visits school environments. Kaleidoscope also provides Kaleidoscope To Go! services to enable educators to add creative elements into their curricula.
