While the Castro district is home to many gay clubs, both gay bars and gay-friendly clubs can be found throughout the city of San Francisco. From dance clubs such as Badlands and the Café, to leather bars such as 440 Castro, San Francisco offers a wide variety of gay nightlife.
Once the only dance club in the Castro district, the Café features a large dance floor, three bars and an open patio located in the middle of the bar. The Café is open seven days a week, starting at 5 p.m. on weekdays, 3 p.m. on Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays. Saturday nights play Top 40 Hits while Sundays offer a barbecue with $2 hamburgers and $1 hot dogs.

Badlands bills itself as a video and dance club, and includes a light show on the dance floor. The dance floor is located in the back of the club, while the front room features a quieter area, suitable for conversations. Happy hour offers two cocktails for the price of one, and extends Mondays through Saturdays from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. A beer bust is available on Sundays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The 440 Castro is a popular leather bar open seven days a week. Every night features a different theme or drink special, such as underwear night on Mondays, complete with a clothing check-in station and $2 beers on Tuesdays. Wooden Nickel Nights take place on weekends; a wooden nickel comes with every drink purchase which can later be redeemed for another drink.
