The city of Detroit, located on the eastern side of the state of Michigan, boasts numerous activities and attractions. While some of these activities are meant strictly for adults, there is a lot of family fun to be had in Detroit and in the immediate surrounding areas---and it doesn't have to cost you an arm and a leg.
Open nearly year-round, the Detroit Zoo has provided the area with wholesome, family-friendly entertainment since August 1, 1928. The zoo itself takes up an area of 125 acres, with exhibits such as the Australian Outback Adventure, the National Amphibian Conservation Center, the Great Apes of Harambee, the Penguinarium and the Butterfly Garden. Children aged 2 and under are admitted for free, while children under the age of 14 are admitted at a reduced rate.

Offering free general admission to all guests, the Detroit Children's Museum provides a fun, wholesome learning experience for the entire family. The Detroit Children's Museum is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday all year round. The museum is also open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month from October to May.

The Henry Ford Complex, located just outside of Detroit, consists of five major attractions: The Henry Ford Museum, The Henry Ford Village, the IMAX Theatre, the Ford Rouge Factory Tour and the Benson Ford Research Center. Admission varies depending on what attractions you want to see, and special events are held at all facilities in the complex on a regular basis.

Completed in August of 2002 after 32 months of construction, Ford Field replaced the Pontiac Silverdome as the official home stadium of the Detroit Lions football team. The stadium holds 65,000 patrons and hosts musical performances and other events during the football off-season.

Completed in April of 2000, Comerica Park replaced the long-standing and historic Tiger Stadium as the official home stadium of the Detroit Tigers baseball team. The new ballpark features a massive Ferris wheel, a pedestrian museum and plenty of restaurants and shops.
