Things to Do With Kids Around Detroit, Michigan

Detroit certainly has a reputation. Unfortunately, its image as an automotive powerhouse and purveyor of the Motown sound has given way to crime statistics and visions of post-industrial blight. That is not to say that Detroit can't be a great place for children. Professional sports four seasons a year, world-class museums and a varied selection of parks just begins to scratch the service of what Detroit has to offer children.
  1. Arts & Scraps

    • Recycled PVC pipes make up the "Junk Xylophone."

Children learn about the importance of recycling, support a non-profit and even have fun too at Arts & Scraps where recycled industrial items turn into learning tools for all ages. Youngsters play a tune on the "Junk Xylophone" or learn how to weave on the "Double Box Loom." Arts & Scraps hosts birthday parties during which participants make custom projects based on the theme of their choice.

    Delray Park Boundless Playground

    • Play the day away at Delray.

Not just another set of swings and slides, this play area is one of a number in Michigan constructed through the generosity of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and other benefactors as a means of providing disabled children with a place to have fun. Those without disabilities can find fun here too, and the park welcomes all children to come and learn from one another through play.
