Spend the day touring a zoo or botanical garden, where you can explore and learn about nature, insects and animals. The Butterfly Pavilion offers a hands-on experience where kids can learn about butterflies and insects. The Denver Zoo and the Downtown Aquarium are 20 minutes away. Both the zoo and aquarium offer close encounters and viewing areas for kids to see and learn about the animals.
Westminster dates to the mid-1800s with many of the historical sites still open for visitors. The Bowles House Museum was the home of Edward Bruce Bowles, who was a cattle herder and rancher. Race the kids up 181 steps to the top of the Historic City Hall Bell Tower, where you can get a panoramic view of the Rocky Mountains.

Skate City offers a place to take the kids inside when weather gets cold. The Children's Museum of Denver offers a place where kids can be part of the action and where they can touch, feel and act out through different activities. Let the kids explore the different exhibits at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science where they can learn about Egypt, dinosaurs, pirates and the Colorado River area.
