Take your kids to a Broadway show. The amazing singing and dancing, the gorgeous sets and the elegance of the theater are sure to thrill. Some great shows for kids (that are also fun for adults) include "Wicked," "Shrek," "Billy Elliot" and "The Lion King."
If Broadway show tickets are out of your price range, visit the Summerstage at Central Park. There are free concerts there at least once a week, including special family day concerts with songs and puppet shows.
The 500-acre Bronx Zoo has something for everyone. There's a children's zoo with interactive activities, the opportunity to ride a camel, a monorail ride and, of course, hundreds of species of animals, from butterflies to elephants.
The American Museum of Natural History is an exciting place for kids 4 and over. There are galleries covering every kind of science, but kids tend to love the dinosaur exhibits, the interactive Discovery Room and the Rose Center for Earth and Space (which includes the Planetarium).
There are many sightseeing cruises in New York City. But while seeing the city from the water is an amazing sight, you don't need to spend money on an expensive tour. Just take a free ride on the Staten Island Ferry. You'll pass by the Statue of Liberty and be able to ride as many times as you want. For an extensive ride around the city, try the Circle Line cruises.
