Popular Vacation Spots in Colorado

Colorado prides itself on being more mountainous, populated and economically advanced than the rest of the Rocky Mountain states. With 50 peaks over 14,000 feet, it has become a winter haven for skiers and snowboarders from all over the world. However, the beautiful foliage of autumn, the warm, breezy weather of spring and the bright, blue skies of summer make Colorado an attractive place to visit year round.

  1. Summers at the Rocky Mountain National Park

    • From late May to mid-October, visitors drive along the 45-mile Trail Ridge Road that showcases the awe-inspiring mountains between Estes Park and Grand Lake. The Alpine Visitor Center is a must-stop viewpoint for the alpine tundra. The Old Fall River Road is only opened during the summer season and is far less busy than the Trail Ridge Road. The relative lack of traffic provides an excellent chance of seeing the park's wildlife. Moose, coyote, mountain lions and black bears are just a few of the big wild animals. There are also numerous hiking trails, from short to overnight hikes, for visitors looking to explore on foot. Five campgrounds are available within the park, and reservations are always recommended ahead of time. Additionally, various youth hostels, motels and other lodging accommodation are available in Estes Park and Grand Lake.

Spring and Autumn at the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve

    • Over millions of years, the glacial sands have blown east from the San Juan Mountains and created what is known today as the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve. The gigantic sand dunes, the largest in North America, are an excellent destination spot for families. Children will enjoy the strange beauty of the dunes and enjoy sliding down them even more. Many visitors make reservations ahead of time to obtain a camping permit and stay at the Pinyon Flats Campground, which is accessible by car. Additionally, the park has thousands of acres of grasslands, lakes and forests to explore.

    Winter in Vail

    • Vail, located 96 miles from Denver, has quickly become a ski-town rival for popular Telluride and Aspen. The beautifully picturesque town resembles the architecture of the Swiss Alps; and the warm glow of the buildings' lights in the evening against the snowy backdrop exudes romance. Visitors can enjoy an array of activities from skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and even a chance to jump on a bungee trampoline. The town also has numerous spas and shopping boutiques to relax, unwind and rejuvenate. There are many accommodations, but staying at Vail Village with its charming cobblestone streets and heated walkways is truly an experience.
