For those who are planning a getaway during the Christmas holidays, there are many locations in the Southern region of the United States that may not dissapoint. From Texas to Florida to North Carolina, there are plenty of destinations that are known for spreading Christmas cheer in a big way.
Orlanda, Fla. is ranked number four on Southern Living Magazine's five best cities for a Southern Christmas. Every year around the holidays, the Epcot Center hosts a Candlelit Processional, in which a 50-piece orchestra and a mass choir performs. Also, Walt Disney World's Universal Studios hosts the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights. The streets of the amusement park are lined with Christmas lights and other holiday decorations.
George Vanderbilt created the Biltmore House in Asheville, N.C. in 1895 as a retreat. The 8,000-acre estate now welcomes tourists to explore the lavish estate. Annually, around the holidays, the Biltmore House is decorated with dozens of Christmas trees, wreaths, lights, poinsettias and thousands of ornaments, according to the Biltmore.com. A 35-foot Fraser fir is in the home as well, according to Biltmore.com.

The San Antonio River Walk is a famous Christmas attraction, welcoming people from Texas and beyond annually, according to Southern Living Magazine. Boats cruising along the San Antonio River, which runs downtown San Antonio, are decorated with Christmas lights, and carolers sing from these boats, according to Southern Living Magazine. About 120,000 lights decorate the streets, according to to Southern Living Magazine, and the nearby El Mercado area has many shops available for holiday shopping.
