Family Vacations in the United States

Moments to last a lifetime, bonding experiences and shared adventure are hallmarks of family vacations. Throughout the United States, options abound for families who seek a chance to reconnect, share and celebrate. Family vacations should provide fun and learning opportunities for all members of the family.

  1. Walt Disney World Resort

    • Orlando's Walt Disney World Resort offers first-class accommodations, four amusement parks, shopping and dining. From Downtown Disney, where live entertainment, movie theaters and various restaurants can be found, to the amusement parks themselves, Walt Disney World Resort truly offers something for all ages. Downtown Disney is a town unlike any other and is home to the Disney Character Store, where kids can meet their favorite Disney characters and shop for souvenirs. Thrill rides, such as the Astro Orbiter and Big Thunder Mountain at Magic Kingdom, fulfill the expectations of any daredevil, while Epcot Center provides a sampling of world cultures and intrigues with glimpses of the future. Disney's Hollywood Studios offers visitors a chance to experience being on stage, with attractions such as the American Idol Experience, and Disney's Animal Kingdom explores the wildlife and habitat of different regions of the world, with attractions such as Expedition Everest. The Walt Disney World Resort offers several hotel and resort options for accommodations and also offers resort packages for vacationers, which include access to the amusement parks.

    Grand Canyon National Park

    • At 18 miles wide and a mile deep, the Grand Canyon is a magnificent natural wonder. The canyon can be viewed from trails along the rim on guided tours and by hiking into the canyon, though the latter is only recommended for experienced, physically fit hikers. The south rim of the canyon receives the most visitors and is most accessible throughout the year, while the north rim is more remote and is open only during the warmer weather of mid-May to mid-October. Family-friendly experiences within the park, such as the guided ranger program, encourage interaction and enhance the learning experience.

The Grand Canyon offers breathtaking vistas of the natural environment and the Colorado River, which flows through the canyon. Spectators can view wildlife along the walking path, at designated overlooks and by taking a guided mule trip. Grand Canyon National Park is home to over 373 species of birds, and has several museums, art galleries and gift shops. Amenities within the park include Market Plaza, which provides dining at the Yavapai Cafeteria and the Delicatessen at the Marketplace, a general store and a post office. Camping accommodations, which provide modern amenities such as showers and restrooms, can be found in the park, while modern accommodations can be found near the entrance to the park.
