Peruvian Restaurants in New Jersey

Due to economic and political upheaval, many Peruvians have found their way to the United States. As a group, Peruvians proudly believe in preserving their culture and traditions, especially their cuisine. There are hundreds of Peruvians restaurants dotted across the country and New Jersey alone, primarily the northern section, is home to more than 50 of these fine eating establishments.

  1. Mango's Grill Restaurant Bar

    • Located across the street from the railroad station in Rahway, the exterior of Mango's Grill may be unassuming but the interior is well appointed, the food portions are large and the staff is friendly. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the restaurant offers a Monday through Friday lunch special for $6.95 and a "All You Can Eat Buffet" every Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. Dinner entrees range in price from $6 to $29 and include such dishes as lomo saltado (strips of beef sauteed with onions and tomatoes), and pescado en salsa de camarones (fried fish covered in shrimp). A full bar menu is also available. Prices are as of 2010.

    Delicias Peruanas Restaurant

    • Delicias Peruanas Restaurant, located in Union City, offers breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. Reasonably priced breakfasts start at $4 for a Peruvian tamale and run up to $10 for piqueo lurin, a deep fried pork served with yams and tamale. Known for its wide selection of appetizers including octopus salad, Peruvian mussels and yams and Peruvian corn, the menu also offers lunch and dinner entrees featuring soups, meat, chicken, seafood and spaghetti. Entrees range in price from $9 to $25 as of 2010 and include such dishes as chuleta frita (fried pork chops), saltado de pollo (chicken stew), and pulpo en crema de ajo (octopus in garlic sauce).

    Peruvian Family Restaurant

    • A small restaurant with limited seating but large portions and great service, Peruvian Family Restaurant is a Passaic favorite among locals and visitors alike. From the outside this is another unassuming restaurant, but Victor, the Peruvian-Japanese owner, strives to serve only the best authentic Peruvian food to his customers. The arroz chaufa especial is one of the restaurants more popular dishes. Known for its green hot sauce, the eatery also specializes in spicy fish platters such as pescado a lo macho and ceviche especial. Open daily for lunch and dinner, its BYOB at the Peruvian Family Restaurant.
