Nestled among southern New Jersey’s Pine Barrens, Whiting’s rather remote location makes the area’s selection of restaurants limited. It was dubbed a “restaurant wasteland” by one local reviewer on the ChowHound section of the food-focused website Chow.com. The small number of eateries covers a lot of ground, serving a large selection of international favorites.
Formerly Al Martis’ Inn, Cranberry’s Pub is a restaurant and bar with the appearance of a log cabin. The pub’s kitchen has an offering of American favorites, including appetizers, salads, a sandwich board that changes regularly, soups and a list of entrees called “big bites.” One reviewer at Yelp.com grades the pub with an A+ for the friendly, efficient service, full bar with low drink prices and the entertaining atmosphere, which includes a pool table and a small recreation area. Other diversions include Friday poker nights and Saturday night live bands. Patrons should call about the hours of operation, which may change seasonally. Typically, the restaurant closes Monday through Wednesday during the cold-weather months; in warm-weather months, it keeps extended hours and is open daily.

The dining room inside Joey’s Place Ristorante Italiano features vibrant hues and exposed brick. Seasonally, a small patio is open in front of the restaurant, with bistro tables and umbrellas to provide shade from the sun. One Zagat reviewer was so impressed by his visits that he created a listing on the Zagat website to rave about this “jewel of Mediterranean cookery” with a jolly staff. A hefty menu, filled with Italian specialties, offers various antipasti, baked dishes, pasta, pizza, seafood, small plates and veal. The restaurant is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. for in-restaurant dining. A slightly abbreviated menu is offered for carry-out dining. Patrons are welcome to bring their own wine or beer to enjoy with their meals.

Guests may enjoy the menu in a small themed dining room. Carry-out service is available, and local delivery is offered during lunchtime hours. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The restaurant is closed on Sundays.
