What did Afghanistan do to the US?

Afghanistan did not directly do anything negative to the US. On September 11, 2001, nineteen al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four commercial airliners and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. Al-Qaeda is a Sunni Islamic extremist group based in Afghanistan. Following the attacks, the US demanded that the Taliban government in Afghanistan turn over Osama bin Laden, the al-Qaeda leader and mastermind behind the attacks, and other al-Qaeda members. Bin Laden and al-Qaeda were operating in Afghanistan with the support of the Taliban. The Taliban refused to comply, leading to a US-led military invasion of Afghanistan on October 7, 2001.
