How to Boat on Lake Mead

Lake Mead is more than 550 square miles and is centered between Nevada and Arizona. This body of water is monitored by the U.S. National Park Service. This recreation area is considered a boater's paradise as thousands of people descend on the water for boating, fishing, swimming and water skiing. Before you plan to launch your boat on Lake Mead, make sure you obtain an entrance pass from the National Park Service.

      Download, print and fill out the National Recreation Area Entrance Pass form from the National Park Service. You will need to include your name and address and indicate what type of pass you are applying for. As of 2011, a lake use pass is $20 and a entrance pass for a vehicle is $20. All vehicles and motorized vessels are required to have a pass.

      Mail the completed form to the National Park Service with your check or money order payable to the National Park Service.

      Attach the entrance pass sticker to the lower left side of the windshield to both your vehicle and vessel. According to the National Park Service, passes will not be honored if they are placed in another location.

      Enter the Lake Mead vicinity through a designated entrance station.

      Launch your vessel at a designated boat launch area.
