Navigate to the website of the airline you want to fly with, or visit a travel booking website, such as Travelocity, Orbitz or Priceline.
Input your departure and arrival cities or airports in the search box. Pick the dates you wish to leave and return. Choose the number of passengers in your party and click "Search." If you have some flexibility, more advanced search options allow you to search a number of airports in your vicinity or a range of dates.
Choose the flights you wish you book from the options displayed. Once you choose both your departure and return flights, you will be prompted to purchase the tickets.
Review the displayed itinerary to ensure it is what you want. Select "Continue." Input the passenger's legal first and last name, date of birth and gender. Press "Continue."
Select your seat choice for each flight, if prompted. Some flights will give this option, while others will not. Input your credit card number and billing information. Select "Complete Reservation." Your tickets will be purchased and your confirmation numbers will be displayed. This information will also be emailed to you. Generally you will not receive or need to print paper tickets, although it's a good idea to print out your confirmation email or your itinerary. When you go to the airport, using your identification -- and possibly the credit card you used to pay for the tickets -- will allow you to get a boarding pass for your flight.
