Air travel has become a costly, but integral, part of traveling. And with a plethora of so-called cheap deals out there, it can be difficult when buying a ticket to feel confident that it was the best option available. However, buying a cheap ticket is something of an art form that one must master if he/she wishes to be successful. Thankfully, there are many websites that travelers can use to find the best deal possible, including farecompare.com, bing.com, kayak.com, cheapflights.com, travelocity.com and skyscanner.com.

Searching the web

  Open up a web-browser on a computer that has Internet access. In the address bar, type in a website that specializes in cheap air fare, such as www.kayak.com.

  Once logged into kayak.com, click on "Flights" to search for airline deals. Type in the necessary information regarding your travel plans: Round-trip/One-way, From, To, Departure Date, Arrival/Return Date, Passenger, Class. Hit "Search" when all the information is typed in or selected.

  Browse through the different results to see and compare the cheapest rates available for your travel plans. Make a note of the cheapest deals or deals that you feel are reasonable.

  Repeat steps 1-3 on a different website (select any site from the list provided in the introduction). Compare the results of this website with the previous one. Look to see if there are any better deals. Pick the best and the cheapest deal that works for you and buy that ticket.
