How to Book a Flight on Continental Airlines

Founded in 1934 as Varney Speed Lines, Continental has gone through many changes and a few rough spells, but has become an industry leader in recent years. Here's how to book a seat on a Continental flight.

Things You'll Need

  • Credit card
  • Computer with Internet access

Instructions

  1. Choose Your Route

    • 1

Take a connecting flight through Houston, Cleveland or Newark, N.J. They are all Continental hubs, and booking your travel through these cities could result in a lower fare.

    • 2

Check for online deals. Continental's Web site (see Resources below) offers travel packages as well as last-minute specials.

    Know Airline Rules and Regulations

    • 3

Join the President's Club and OnePass, Continental's frequent-flyer program. The President's Club offers a comfortable lounge and OnePass allows you to earn points towards upgrades or free travel.

    • 4

Avoid long lines at the airport by checking your luggage with a skycap. Tipping these employees is customary.

    • 5

Check-in online beginning 24 hours before your flight for extra peace of mind. This service is available for most, but not all, of the cities Continental serves.

    Book Your Flight

    • 6

Reserve and purchase your ticket online. Visit the Continental site and click on the "Reservations" link. You can search available flights and compare prices, and then book your ticket. Write down your confirmation number as you will need it to check in.

    • 7

Book your flight over the phone by calling one of Continental's toll-free numbers: (800) 523-3273 for travel in the United States and Mexico, or (800) 231-0856 for international travel.

    • 8

Plan your trip through a travel agent if you are trying to assemble a complete vacation while flying on Continental.
