Are there dangerous sharks in Norwegian waters?
While there are several shark species in Norwegian waters, only one is widely regarded as potentially dangerous: the Greenland shark (_Somniosus microcephalus_). The Greenland shark is a large and sluggish shark that can reach lengths of over 20 feet. It is an apex predator and has been known to attack humans on rare occasions. However, these attacks have typically occurred when the shark has been provoked or accidentally caught in fishing gear. The Greenland shark is not considered a true "man-eater" like other shark species, such as great whites or bull sharks.
Other shark species that can be found in Norwegian waters include the common skate (_Raja clavata_), the spiny dogfish (_Squalus acanthias_), and the porbeagle shark (_Lamna nasus_). These sharks are generally not considered dangerous to humans unless provoked.
