Is lake Gaston a man made lake?

Lake Gaston is a man-made lake on the boundary between Virginia and North Carolina that was constructed in 1953 to generate electricity. The lake was created when the Roanoke River was dammed and stretches some 35 miles with over 200 miles of shoreline.
