Barge Cruises on the Thames River

The Thames River is 210 miles long and winds through many of England's towns and key attractions. Guests who take a barge cruise along the river can ride in luxury, avoid traffic and see sites they otherwise might have missed. The barges stop at different locations and allow guests to rest, walk along the Thames path and take in the sites. There are two main barges that travel the Thames, but short cruises can also be taken in London.
  1. Magna Carta

    • The Magna Carta is an eight-passenger barge that provides space and luxury accommodations to its guests. Passengers meet with the captain for tea at a London hotel before boarding the barge. Once on board, guests enjoy fine-dining, wine, Jacuzzi tubs and spacious rooms. The top part of the barge is the saloon, which has games, bar, reference books, music and fine-dining. The saloon is surrounded by windows so you won't miss the sites. The cruise lasts seven days and six nights, includes all meals and wine, has an open bar and includes some guided activities off the boat.

    Actief

    • The Actief was built as a cargo vessel in 1907 and was converted into a luxury hotel in 1976. The ship has been through many upgrades since 2005, including the addition of air-conditioning and marble floors in the bathrooms. The saloon has a fully-stocked bar, reference books and an elaborate sound system. Rooms have private bathrooms and air-conditioning and are near the sun deck. The Actief provides three full meals a day, mid-morning coffee, afternoon tea and a wine and cheese course in the evening. The cruise lasts seven days and six nights.

    City Cruises

    • City cruises provides short cruises on the Thames River. The trips are just in London and can be as short as 30 minutes. They often have a theme, such as a dance cruise or New Year's Eve cruise. This is an option for people who want to see the sites without spending several days on the river. The boats can also be booked for special events and private parties. The sightseeing tour leaves from several points around London and goes by many attractions, including the London Tower, Westminster Abbey and the Churchill Museum. The boats are built to sail in any weather conditions, are wheelchair accessible and have snacks and refreshments on board.
