Why is Seattle called Seattle?

Seattle's name comes from Chief Si’ahl of the Duwamish and Suquamish tribes. The first white settlers called the area "Lum's Inlet" ("Lumm" was a close approximation of Chief Si'ahl's name in the Chinook Jargon trade-language prevalent at the time). In 1853, the settlement adopted the "Seattle" name instead, and was eventually incorporated under this name in 1869.
