A state shell is a specialized command-line environment launched at system boot that provides:

• Full access to the host operating system's command interface (shell) features and facilities.
• Extended debugging and maintenance commands for system monitoring, diagnostics, and network management.
• Elevated privileges for low-level hardware and kernel interaction.

It is typically used by system administrators, firmware engineers, and automated recovery scripts to inspect or modify system state before the full multi-user environment loads. Not to be confused with a regular login shell or a restricted shell.
