Traveling from London to Stonehenge: Why the Underground Doesn't Go There

The London Underground (Tube) does not extend to Stonehenge. The monument lies in Wiltshire, about 80 miles (130 km) west of London, far beyond the Tube's reach.

How to Get There

1. Train + Bus/Taxi (most common): Take a South Western Railway train from London Waterloo to Salisbury (~1.5 hours). From Salisbury station, catch the Stonehenge Tour Bus or a taxi (~8 miles, 15-20 min).
2. Drive: ~1.5–2 hours via the M3 and A303. On-site parking available.
3. Organized Tour: Many companies offer day trips from London with transport and timed entry included.

Advance booking of Stonehenge timed-entry tickets is strongly recommended, especially in summer.
