To earn a Regents diploma, students must complete 22 credits of coursework, including 4 credits of English, 4 credits of math, 3 credits of science, 3 credits of social studies, and 8 credits of electives. Students must also pass all five Regents exams: English Language Arts, Math, Science, Global History and Geography, and United States History and Government.
To earn an Advanced Regents diploma, students must complete 26 credits of coursework, including 4 credits of English, 4 credits of math, 4 credits of science, 4 credits of social studies, and 10 credits of electives. Students must also pass all eight Advanced Regents exams: English Language Arts, Math A, Math B, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Global History and Geography, and United States History and Government.
In addition to the additional coursework and exams required, Advanced Regents diploma candidates must also maintain a minimum GPA of 90 and participate in extracurricular activities.
The Advanced Regents diploma is a more challenging diploma than the Regents diploma, but it can also be more rewarding. Students who earn an Advanced Regents diploma are eligible for admission to the most competitive colleges and universities in New York State and beyond.
