Day Train Trips in Ohio

A day round-trip excursion provides you with an unparalleled opportunity to relish the scenic beauty of the Ohio Valley region, without leaving the comfort of the rails. Rail excursions provide an opportunity to commute from one region to another within the Ohio Valley area for business or pleasure, while allowing you to spend much-needed time with your family, or to catch up on work, instead of fighting traffic. Here are some train trips that you can explore in Ohio.
  1. Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad

    • The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad (CVSR) allows passengers the opportunity to explore the majesty of the Cuyahoga National Park while riding in a vintage railroad car. Through your train windows, you may catch a glimpse of white-tailed deer or herons fishing in the Cuyahoga River along the way. The National Park Service operates the CVSR, and offers short trips lasting from three or four hours, to longer full-day trips. CVSR trips extend beyond the National Park as well, allowing visitors to explore tourist attractions in the Akron area, including the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

    Hocking Valley Scenic Railway

    • The Hocking Valley Scenic Railway (HVSR) takes passengers from Nelsonville, Ohio, to Logan and back. It has been operated by a nonprofit society since 1972. The rolling stock consists of vintage equipment, including diesel engines and fully renovated and heated railroad cars. Along the Nelsonville to Logan path, passengers will have the opportunity to see a canal lock, the last Ohio company town and Robbins Crossing, a pioneer log village from the 1940s. The HVSR also offers themed rides for the holidays, including Christmas, Easter and Fourth of July excursions.

    Ashtabula, Carson & Jefferson Scenic

    • The Ashtabula, Carson & Jefferson Scenic Line (ACJS) travels through forests and farms from Jefferson, Ohio, to Carson, Ohio. The ACJS line operates on a seasonal basis from Father's Day weekend to the end of October, operating a full-size train with passenger cars from the 1920s. A round trip along the Jefferson-Carson line lasts one hour and covers nearly 12 miles.
