On its way from Anchorage to Fairbanks, the Denali Star stops at Wasilla, Talkeetna and Denali Park.
The Denali Star offers daily service from mid-May to mid-September with morning departures from both Anchorage and Fairbanks.
The Gold Star first class service was added in May 2005. Two glass domed double-deck luxury rail cars offer priority boarding, reserved seating, first class only dining area, complimentary non-alcoholic beverages and a prime viewing location.
At 914 feet long and 296 feet above Hurricane Creek, the bridge at Hurricane Gulch is the longest on the route. The Denali Star crosses it on the section from Talkeetna to Denali.
Denali National Park is open year round. Visitors in the summer season can take bus shuttles into wilderness areas and may encounter caribou, moose, wolves, Dall sheep and bear. If it is a clear day you may see the top of Mount McKinley, or as the Alaskans call it Denali.
The midway point between Fairbanks and Anchorage is Honolulu, Alaska at mile marker 288.7. Snow in this area can sometimes be over six feet deep.
