Plan to leave from Porto's main train station, Gare de Campanha. Several trains run from here to Coimbra each day.
Decide how quickly you want to arrive in Coimbra. The speediest trains are on the Alfa line. Slower and cheaper trains are on the interregional lines.
Determine your class of service. Most trains offer first- and second-class options. Choose either a standard ticket, railpass or reserved seat.
Book tickets with a major credit card.
Arrive at the Porto train station and find your train number highlighted on the monitors.
Locate the platform and wait there until your train arrives.
Board the train marked with your Coimbra destination. Leave large bags at the front of the car.
Show the conductor your ticket when he or she asks for it, and enjoy your trip. Travel to Coimbra should take about 11/2 hours.
