Book your ticket by calling 888-VIA-RAIL or by visiting the VIA Rail Canada Web site (see Resources below).
Choose the day you'd like to depart. The Canadian and Snow Train travel back and forth 3 times a week.
Save money by booking Flexi fares in the Comfort class. This economy class is ideal for shorter trips. It's also relatively comfortable for overnight travel.
Upgrade to sleeping car fares. You'll sleep soundly in your bed. Plus, you can save money if you book this fare online at least 5 days prior to travel.
Ask about the amenities your ticket entitles you to. Luckily, all passengers aboard these trains receive access to the dining car; but some areas are restricted based on ticket class.
Charter your own train to Alberta. Customized menus, personalized service and exclusive use of the individual cars entitle your group to absolute privacy. This service aboard the Canadian, called Priva, applies regardless of the distance you travel.
Pile up! Both trains feature the same sleeping car options. To start, try the bunk bed-style berths, which are the most economical of the 4 sleeping car styles.
Traveling alone? Book the single bedroom designed for single occupancy. Enjoy complete privacy.
Stay in a double bedroom. Built for 2, these rooms have private washrooms and closets to store your luggage.
Live large--or at least travel large! The triple bedroom has 3 beds, a sofa and a large window so you can enjoy the view without ever having to leave your room.
Roll out of bed--and right into your seat. All beds transform into your seat during daytime train travel.
Wear your eye mask and ear plugs. If you're unable to book the sleeping car class, these items are a must for sound sleep aboard the train.
