Canada Post Shipping Methods

Canada Post has a wide range of services for sending letters, documents and parcels within Canada and to U.S. and international destinations. Canada Post offers standard methods for shipping within Canada and then more specialized services that guarantee delivery within specific time periods both domestically and worldwide.
  1. Standard Letter Service

    • Canada Post's Standard Lettermail service will deliver a document or letter within four days anywhere in Canada, with the exception of remote locations. If Lettermail service is local it will be delivered within two days and for province-wide delivery, four days.

    Regular Parcel in Canada

    • Shipping a parcel in Canada by regular mail could take anywhere from 2 to 9 days for delivery. A tracking number is provided as part of the service and the delivery status of the package can be checked online.

    Express Services within Canada

    • The fastest shipping service for documents and parcels inside Canada is the Priority Next A.M., which as the title suggests delivers the next morning. Slightly cheaper than the Priority service is the Xpresspost, which offers a next day or 2 day delivery. Both services guarantee delivery times and use a tracking system so items can be checked online.

    Shipping to the U.S.A.

    • Priority Worldwide is the fasting shipping method to the U.S.A., providing next business day delivery of documents or packages to all major U.S. centers by noon. Xpresspost USA is cheaper than Priority and guarantees service with 3, 4 and 5 day deliveries. Expedited Parcel is the cheapest ground shipping service, but cannot guarantee delivery time, which is a 6 day minimum.

Another method of delivery is by packet---Light Packet-USA, Small Packet-USA Air, and Small Packet-USA Surface. All of these services are an economical way to ship small and lightweight items (less than 1 kg). Delivery times are not guaranteed for packet services and can take 4 to 6 days depending on service. There is coverage for lost or damaged items up to $100.

    International Shipping

    • Priority Worldwide is the fasting shipping method to international destinations. Delivery is within 2 or 3 business days, but is not guaranteed. Cheaper than the Priority service is the Xpresspost International which guarantees delivery to 50 countries worldwide in a minimum of 4 days.

Canada Post offers worldwide packet services---Light Packet- International, Small Packet - International Air and Small Packet - International Surface. As with shipments to the U.S.A., these services are an economical way to ship small and lightweight items (less than 2 kg) to international destinations. The Light Packet- International and Small Packet - International Air will deliver in as few as 6 days, but the Small Packet-International Surface takes up to 6 weeks. All but the Light Packet services provide coverage for loss or damage up to $100.

A cost effective method for shipping larger parcels is International Parcel-Air and International Parcel-Surface. Air delivery is within as few as 6 days, while Surface delivery takes up to 6 weeks. Both offer up to $100 coverage for loss of damage, but for an additional fee you can get coverage of up to $1,000.

Canada Post shipping services can be purchased online or at a post office outlet. Registered Mail is a service option on most shipping methods. The cost of shipping depends on the size and weight of each parcel, except where pre-paid envelopes are used.
