About the M5 Tollway in Sydney

Sydney, Australia is a leading international city that has historically risen to prominence upon the strength of its seaport and extensive transportation network. Today's M5 South West Motorway serves as a critical link for New South Wales traffic into Sydney.
  1. Route Description

    • M5 is a 22-kilometer, or 14-mile route that runs between Beverly Hills and Preston. The M5 South West Motorway actually funnels traffic into the M5 East Freeway towards Sydney Airport and the F5 Freeway, which extends south and west towards Canberra via National Highways 31 and 23.

    Misconceptions

    • The M5 South West Motorway is a toll route. This highway is not to be confused with the M5 East, or F5, which are both free to use.

    Considerations

    • Toll plazas have been installed at Hammondville, and off the eastbound exit ramps at Henry Lawson Drive, alongside Fairford and River roads. You may either pay in cash, or with your E-Way tag, which electronically deducts money from your account.

    Management

    • M5 South West Motorway is managed by Interlink Roads beneath a leasing agreement with the government. Interlink Roads is a private company, separate from the Roads and Traffic Authority of New South Wales.

    Warnings

    • Tollbooths are under video surveillance to ensure that all motorists pay required tolls.
