The Balmorhea area offers campgrounds that reflect the Western heritage of the region. The campground at Balmorhea State Park was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps to take advantage of San Solomon Springs, a natural body of water that has been a source of water in the region for thousands of years. Other campgrounds put visitors in the vicinity of Fort Davis and other west Texas landmarks.
Balmorhea State Park features recreational vehicle sites that include water, electrical and cable television hookups. Historic Prude Ranch is primarily a venue for kids and families, and it includes bunkhouses and group dining areas. Accompanying Overland Trail Campground offers group camping in rustic cabins along with RV and tent camping.
The spring-fed swimming pool is a main feature of Balmorhea State Park. The pool is 25 feet deep and covers nearly 2 acres. It is filled with aquatic life and welcomes scuba divers and swimmers. The campground at the state park includes a hotel that is made of adobe bricks. Prude Ranch hosts an annual summer camp for kids, and its horse corral provides horseback riding on one of 70 horses.
