Camping in South Beach, Texas

South Beach is one five campgrounds on the South Padre Island National Seashore. Visitors of South Beach enjoy windsurfing, boating, swimming, fishing and bird watching. The beach is also close to dining and shopping choices. Recreational activities and events are scheduled year-round.
  1. Geography

    • South Beach goes from the end of Park Road 22 down 60 miles south to the boundary of Mansfield Channel. There are no roads or streets in South Beach; visitors drive on the beach. To drive past the beach's five-mile markers, you must have a four-wheel-drive vehicle.

    Camping Limit

    • South Beach camping regulations allow campers to stay up to 14 days maximum. To return after the 14 day period, campers must leave the campground for 48 hours. After 48 hours, visitors may return to the park.

    Cost and Permits

    • Camping in South Beach is free and no reservations are required or accepted. Before camping at South Beach, all visitors must get a camp permit. Camp permits are available at the entrance of South Beach or at any South Padre Island camp entrance.
