Service Hotels at US Parks

While visiting any national park in the United States, you will find a hotel--or perhaps several--inside the park itself. If you are the type of individual who visits the park purely to experience the nature around you, you may find the presence of television or the Internet distracting. You have the option of choosing a hotel that does not offer those amenities at all. If you like to shop, there are hotels with gift shops inside them as well.
  1. Grant Village: Yellowstone National Park

    • Grant Village is a hotel resort in Yellowstone National Park, which has parts in the states of Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. According to the U.S. Park Lodging website, the hotel derives its name from President Ulysses S. Grant, who established Yellowstone as the United States of America's first national park in 1872. The hotel has six two-story chalets, each with 50 rooms. There are 10 wheelchair rooms on the first floor. Lake House Restaurant serves breakfast and dinner. The establishment prohibits smoking in any of its rooms. The hotel does not offer television or Internet service; it sees those items as an interference with the enjoyment of the natural beauty of Yellowstone Park.

    El Tovar Hotel: Grand Canyon

    • The El Tovar Hotel in the Grand Canyon, which sits in Northwest Arizona, opened in 1905. According to the El Tovar website, it is a Registered National Historical Landmark that has hosted such famous people as Theodore Roosevelt, author Zane Grey, and scientist Albert Einstein. It has 78 rooms and suites. El Tovar offers its guests cable television and air conditioning. All rooms are non-smoking. Parking around the hotel is free. The establishment also has a dining room, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Bright Angel Gift Shop sells hiking and mule items for hikers and equestrians. If you only want souvenirs, the store carries T-shirts and hats. If you're hungry, you can buy gourmet foods from the shop.

Furnace Creek National Resort: Death Valley

    • The Inn at Furnace Creek, the resort at Death Valley National Park, offers 66 rooms. The hotel in the eastern California park offers suites, fine dining, a spring-fed swimming pool, tennis courts and a gift shop. The establishment does offer air conditioning and TV, including HBO. It is open from mid-October to mid-May. To accommodate guests who come at other times of the year, the Furnace Creek Ranch is open. As of 2011, you can still smoke, but you must do so outside, as all rooms are non-smoking.

Crater Lake Lodges: Crater Lake National Park

    • Crater Lake Lodge opened its doors in 1915, and is located on the edge of the volcanic basin that overlooks Crater Lake National Park in Crater Lake, Oregon. The hotel has four floors with sprinklers and smoke alarms in all of its rooms, according to the U.S. Park Lodging website. The dining room serves breakfast from 7:00 a.m. to 10: 30 a.m., lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and dinner from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. during the week and on weekends. The only exception is that, from mid-May to late September, the inn serves dinner until 10: 00 pm.
